Green State Farms would like to highlight a new draconian rule been imposed on the breeders of pedigree cattle in Ireland where a donor cow cannot be flushed if there has been TB in that herd in the lifetime of the donor cow. The implications for this new rule excludes many top class pedigree herds where through no fault of their own, A animal might have contracted TB in their herd and had to slaughtered under the TB rules. The donor cow herself never had TB but now because of this new rule is excluded from a flushing programme. This new rule rules out potentially the top herds in the country where lines of pedigree breeding is needed to produce the future stock bulls for suckler farmers throughout Ireland. A large number of bull are bred through this method in selecting top genetics and excluding them is now decimating their income, genetic gain and gene pool of our top pedigree breeders. We ask for a immediate meeting with the Department of Agriculture with all stakeholders involved to remove this new amendment to TB eradication
