Green State Farms was established by a group of like-minded individuals who share a common desire to improve the way farming operates in Ireland, to the benefit of Irish farmers, consumers and the wider community
Our founding members understand and appreciate the vital contribution Irish Family farms make to the sustainability of rural Ireland, the maintenance of rural economies, rural society and to the production of nutritious and safe food.
Unlike every other sector, for too long farmers have not been in a ‘position of systems control’ in terms of how they plan and run their business. What farmers can do, how they run their farm business, their purchasing of farm inputs and the return they get for their produce has been dictated by supply chain interests and organisations post primary production.
This business situation is unlike any other in any other sector and has been allowed to occur, indeed exacerbated primarily due to the absence of effective primary
producer management functions
Producer management functions refers to producer policy, producer objectives, producer plans and producer resources and how these management functions are made available to farmers production.
Producer management functions have effectively been ceded to dominant supply chain interests post primary production, contrary to market regulations and industry quality management standards.
Dominant processors and retailers post primary production effectively run and manage farmer organisations directly and indirectly by prescribing their business processes and product specifications onto farmers.
Green State Farm Producer Group was set-up by management professionals who are experienced with the legal and standards framework, who understand what is required to address the ‘systems issues’ limiting, restricting and inhibiting Irish farmers. Our sole function is to provide professional management services to our members in support of their business operations.
We will actively pursue producer member policy, producer member objectives, producer member plans and assist producer members to optimise their resources with respect to producer member production activities. We are actively developing markets and supply chain relationships to create a sustainable market environment for our members.
With your support and membership, we plan to revolutionise farming in Ireland, putting producer management systems control where it legally belongs; back with producers, whilst actively removing existing restrictive and anti-competitive obstacles to Irish farming.
As a licenced producer group, we are cultivating relationships with community and public representatives, farming and industry bodies to further our common interests.

Quality assurance scheme requirements are not to be confused with market requirements. It is not correct of vested interests post primary production to say: ‘this is what the market wants’. When in fact this is what they the processors, retailers and vested interests want. These requirements stem from the business plans of dominant processors, retailers and vested interests, translated into process and product specifications, prescribed via QA schemes requirements – prescribed to you the farmer as a defacto pre-requisite. The result is; these dominant processors and retailers have been ‘enabled’ to ‘manage’ your business, contrary to market regulations and ISO scheme requirements.
This occurs to the frustration and to the detriment of Irish family farm businesses and dependent communities across the country. The source of this frustration is a function of ‘how’ this is permitted to occur. This situation could not be achieved without the active support and participation of the main farmer representative bodies and agencies in Ireland, whose stamp of approval is actually required and given willingly to allow the continuation of the consolidation and
rationalisation strategy.
It is our stated intention to regain ‘management systems control’ on behalf of farmers, to create a sustainable future for Irish farming and do so through the provision of professional management services designed by farmers, for farmers to enable farmers.
We are a professionally structured management organisation delivering farmer-focused management services aligned with European and National regulations and international ISO standards. Our systems are designed to support sustainable farming in Ireland by enabling compliance without unnecessary or restrictive controls.
